5 out of 5 stars bully: scholarship edition review   September 2, 2010

i have had this pc game for two months now.

As a huge fan of sand box games, i could not resist purchasing the bully:scholarship edition. i am sure that most gamers are already aware of Rockstar's popular gaming style and if you have played any of their previous games, then you will surely appreciate this one. Coming out of high school not too long ago myself, i was delighted to hear about this game. Its a game about the life of a 15 year old boy in a boarding school....it couldn't be more awesome! you get to step into his shoes and interact with everyone and everything as you would in a normal school. there are a lot of challenges to beat in the game and so many things to do and missions to complete. To prove this, i beat the game, but it was actually only 56% complete, so you can still play the game and always find something new to do.
As for compatibility with computers, all you need is windows xp or better. All you have to do is insert the disc, wait for it to pop up, and click 'install'. As for controls, the game is fully compatible with the 'xbox 360 controller for windows', with no configuration needed(starts automatically) and it even includes controls for it in your manual. for those of you who want to stick to the keyboard, its there for you. The game includes comics in the manual and you also get a map of the whole game/poster, which will not be new to the GTA fans.

3 out of 5 stars Great game!   December 14, 2009

As I'm not a great fan of Sony, I waited for the PC version to come out and here it is. I had no idea that there would be a PC version of Bully. I was presuming it would be available for PS2 only and even when they released the scholarship edition I was thinking it was just a part 2 but it was never released on PS2. So I finally got to know that it was just the XBOX 360, PC and Nintendo Wii version of the original game.

Now enough of the waffle and let's get to the point.
People have been complaining that the game freezes up to the part where you meet the principal, as for me didn't experience such. In my case I use Windows 7 Professional (32bit) which works fine perfectly fine.
The game has a good story line, similar to GTA but your trapped in a school full of all sorts of people; bullies, prefects, nerds etc..

The AI is satisfactory but sometimes the guy you follow named "Gary" could be a pain in the neck as he moves like an athlete leaving you confused on where he went to.

As for the graphics, 4.5/10, which means bad! Even when changing the settings to the highest quality still proves no challenge to my Nvidia 9400 GT.

Overall I'll rate it 7/10 for having such an interesting game play! It's really fun to play but not suitable for the little one's as it's rating really deems fit!

Very bad quality PC port.

The menus are awful but the big issue is it just won't run. I have a quad core with a Nvidia 8800gt so the hardware is great and works superbly for every other recent game, but the graphics tear and just don't display. For example, first enter the school and you can see people behind walls that haven't yet rendered, you can't even see the stairs you're supposed to climb until you've sat there for a full minute waiting for stuff to draw.

When I do figure it out and arrive at the Headmaster's room, the game moves to a loading screen WHICH NEVER ENDS. Seriously - no hdd activity. I let it wait for a full hour, nothing. Tried again, same thing. Over and over.

Rockstar have no patch available and given the age, very unlikely to produce one. Pretty obviously they've no intention of fixing these core bugs that completely stop it being played in any form so seriously, SERIOUSLY - DO NOT BUY THIS GAME FOR THE PC!

This has to be the worst quality game I've played in a long, long time. I was looking forward to getting my copy and playing.
However, running on a keyboard is harsh, and completely non-intuitive. I've had problems with attempts to adjust the sound (it won't, and continues to blare out, forcing me to quieten things using the master mixer, but you have to completely leave the game for that).
Then, it crashes. About every 5 to 10 minutes. It's not the memory issues (3GB with fully patched XP). It's not driver problems (latest drivers). It's not system stability (I can run anything else on it without problem).

It looks like the game could be great fun, but it's frankly unplayable as stands. 1 star as crashes taking the machine down are not funny, especially with their frequency.

If you've got an Xbox 360 controller then it's worth getting (can't use any other controller's). If like me you don't then I wouldn't bother as it's like playing twister on your keyboard. There are also some minor graphic and sound glitches, but they didn't bother me too much (might have been preoccupied with the pain in my fingers)
